The National Fire Authority has called on members of the public to call their emergency line as soon as they see a fire as the current weather condition has seen them battling blazes which have eventually destroyed a house.

NFA revealed that in the past two weeks, their firefighters in Labasa and Sigatoka responded to fires however, due to the terrain and the windy conditions were only able to stop the fire from spreading to other properties but could not save a church and an office.

Chief Fire Officer Tupou Saubulinayau said that people need to understand that calling NFA on 919 as soon as they see a fire would reduce the risk of people losing all their belongings, adding the windy conditions also make the fire spread quickly.

Meanwhile, investigations are still underway by Police to determine the cause of the fire at the National Trust Office in Kulukulu, Sigatoka last Monday.
