The National Fire Authority has urged the general public to contact the Fire Authority immediately if they spot a fire.
The call comes after a five year old boy died in a house fire in Simla Lautoka yesterday afternoon after he locked himself in the bathroom.
Divisional Fire Officer Western, John Pillay said they have come across several incidents where Police get the information first before the National Fire Authority is informed.
In relation to yesterday's case, Pillay said they were not informed by the neighbours that a boy was locked up in the house.
Pillay said they will start their investigation this morning and will try to establish the cause of the fire. The house which is situated in Malamala Street caught fire at around 3.30 yesterday afternoon. Malamala street resident, Ashely McGoon confirmed to Fijivillage news that the boy was with his grandmother when the fire started. The six bedroom home was completely destroyed.
