One of the suppliers of Cakes for all occasions, Rosie Hearts has raised concern on the increase of the price of butter.

Rosie Hearts Manager Roshni said with the increase of the prices of butter, it will affect the cost of cakes to her customers.

Roshni was asked whether she will use other alternatives like margarine, she said butter is different because it is quality and cakes taste better with it.

Meanwhile, the new butter prices 125g of Rewa butter will now be $1.37 from 99c. 250g will be $2.71 from $1.84 while 500g will now be $5.40 from $3.55.

The Prices and Incomes Board said this reflects the wholesale and retail prices of local butter as this will increase by 52%.

The PIB said the substantial increase in price reflects the escalating dairy product prices in the world market which subsequently results in high import costs of bulk butter, the major raw material for local butter.

The PIB said consumers should also expect subsequent increases in the price of milk powder.

Consumers are also advised that the prices will differ in other centers due to additional delivery and cartage charges.
