Fiji’s chances of defending their Hong Kong Sevens title suffered a major blow as captain Setefano Cakau has been ruled out because of injury.

Cakau ruptured a medial ligament in his left knee during a scrimmaging session at Nasova last Friday.

According to the Fiji Rugby Union’s medical coordinator and team physiotherapist William Koong, Cakau was reviewed and ruled out.

The big question now is, who will be capable enough to take over the reins of team captain with both Cakau and Lepani Botia ruled out.

Meanwhile, the Hong Kong Sevens kicks off next week and Fiji is pooled with Spain, Hong Kong and Portugal.
