Another stand off looms between the public sector unions and the Public Service Commission after revelations that the Interim Cabinet has decided to stall the restoration of the remaining 4 percent pay cut for civil servants.
Permanent Secretary for PSC, Taina Tagicakibau, after meeting with FPSA General Secretary Rajeshwar Singh and Fiji Teachers Union General Secretary Agni Deo Singh, confirmed that the interim government has made its stand that it cannot confirm a timeline to restore the 4 percent.
Tagicakibau also confirms that while the 1 percent pay cut to be restored on December 20th will be backdated to March 8th, it has also been decided that any restoration of the remaining 4 percent will not include the recovery and will not be backdated.
PSC has also proposed that a 2 percent restoration, without being backdated is paid sometime in June next year.
However, FPSA General Secretary Rajeshwar Singh said they are not happy as it was earlier agreed that the restoration of the 4 percent will be incorporated in the 2008 budget and the interim government is now backing off from its word.
