The interim cabinet met today to decide on the recommendations by the Great Council of Chiefs Review Task team.
Interim Prime Minister and Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Commodore Frank Bainimarama confirmed that the special cabinet meeting is to consider the report and make appropriate decisions.
It is understood that once the GCC recommendations are endorsed, they are likely to be promulgated before a new team of council members are appointed.
Kadavu Provincial Council Chairman and a member of the GCC Review Task Team, Ratu Josateki Nawalowalo said a new selection criteria has been set for the GCC members and he is hoping that it is endorsed today.
It was earlier revealed that the team has recommended that chiefs who are involved in politics should have a stand-down period of 5 years before they are considered for a GCC seat.
The next GCC meeting will see the election of Fiji's next Vice President.
