Cabinet has endorsed that Post Fiji Limited be reformed in order to improve its financial performance and service delivery.

Cabinet based its decision on a submission by the Attorney General and Minister for Public Enterprises, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum.

Post Fiji Limited is a Government Commercial Company and operates 59 post offices and over 90 postal agencies nationwide.

The Attorney General said that the financial performance of the company for the last four years declined, and Government, as the 100% shareholder, is not earning the expected returns from the investments in the company.

Khaiyum said that Post Fiji has suffered the absence of appropriate management skill sets, which has contributed to poor performance, corruption, lack of transparency and inability to remodel the business to reflect contemporary and technological changes.

The Attorney General claims that Post Fiji has failed to keep up with the changes of the information age which demands the postal market to embrace the challenges and transform the postal letter business operation.

He told Cabinet that to provide robustness in the market, PFL needs to be further reformed, and Expressions of Interest will be called locally and internationally to implement the best options for PFL.
