The approval in principle has been given by Cabinet for the establishment of a Government Commercial Company to own, manage and maintain government quarters.

Cabinet based its decision on a submission by the Interim Minister for Public Service, Poseci Bune who explained that Government had earlier agreed for a review to be undertaken on the current management of Government quarters with the primary objective to improve the quality of services it delivers and to receive value for money and return on its assets.

Bune said following the review undertaken by KPMG, the establishment of a GCC is the best way forward.

He went on to say that the Commercial Company will be managing and monitoring all maintenance and construction, and conduct market analysis, collecting rents and ensuring company profitability to meet Government objectives and establishing and maintaining appropriate financial records.

Bune added that an Independent Board would oversee the direction of the Company and there will be employment of adequate staff skilled in property and financial matters.
