A progress report on damage recovery by various departments and ministries is being examined by cabinet.

The report notes the FEA and the PWD are working closely to restore power and water services to the public in all areas while the Ministry of Health informed the interim ministers that with current assessments, estimated costs for relief would be close to $1 million.

The Education Ministry informed Cabinet that schools have been instructed to clean up schools and clear debris for students’ safety before opening on Monday while the Roads Department informed cabinet that there has been extensive damage to roads, bridges, Irish crossings and jetties.

The Fiji Red Cross stated that they were also carrying out assessments and giving assistance to families affected.

Cabinet will meet on Tuesday next week to talk over detailed reports and come to a decision on how much the interim government will provide to the various sectors.
