Cabinet has decided that Fiji will sign the Forum's Pacific Islands Air Services Agreement or PIASA as it is aimed at establishing a framework for the gradual integration of aviation services for the members of the Pacific Islands Forum.

Interim Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama said the Forum member countries embraced this regional agreement because they believe it will provide a multi-lateral basis for the liberalization of air services between them.

He also said that PIASA will allow Fiji's designated airlines to operate to any of the regional routes without restrictions on capacity and frequencies amongst others.

It was also decided at Cabinet that Fiji will sign the Pacific Islands Civil Aviation Safety and Security Treaty, the legal framework for the Pacific Aviation Safety Office, as Bainimarama said it is important to ensure aviation safety and security in the region.
