Cabinet has approved the de-establishment of a number of posts in the civil service as part of an exercise to institute a 10% reduction in the size and cost of the Civil Service.

Interim Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama said that within the next two months, a number of vacant positions will be deleted from the civil service. Bainimarama adds these positions are vacant thus funding provisions can be quoted as savings immediately.

Public Service Commission Chairman, Rishi Ram said the de-establishment of vacant positions will generate savings in millions.
