The Public Service Commission should realise that COLA cannot be removed as they would have to sit down with all the parties involved.

FICTU General Secretary, Attar Singh said this following the announcement made by Interim Finance Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama that COLA would be removed and PSC saying Unions should support the Performance based Management system as it will replace the Cost of Living Adjustment.

Meanwhile, Fiji Public Service Association said that the PMS will not be a good replacement for COLA.

Industrial Relations Officer, Nirbhay Singh said that the System has been discussed for quite some time but implementation would be tough.

PSC Chairman Rishi Ram had earlier mentioned that the Unions should support the Performance based Management system introduced by the government as it would replace the Cost of Living Adjustment [COLA] adding that it was on its final stages before it is implemented.

Chairman Rishi Ram said the introduction of the merit pay will augur well to hardworking civil servants who deserve to get the pay increment.

He said the merit pay system is on its final stages before it is implemented.
