The Constitutional Offices Commission has this afternoon written to the newly appointed Supervisor of Elections Dr. Maurice Coughlan seeking an explanation on why he was disbarred from practicing law in 1992 and why this information was not disclosed to them.

FijiVillage has been reliably informed that an email was sent to Dr. Coughlan this morning as the Constitutional Officers Commission wants detailed information on what led to his disbarment and the motives behind concealing such information.

The Commission Secretariat confirmed that the three commissioners chairman Rishi Ram, Dr. Kesaya Seniloli and Lawyer Gavin O' Driscoll want this information before a decision is made on Dr. Coughlan's future as Supervisor of Elections.

Serious concerns have been raised after revelations that Dr. Coughlan was disbarred from practicing law in 1992 in New Zealand after a bad business transaction.

Ram confirmed that they were not aware of this and the information was not made available to them during Dr. Coughlan's application or interview.

The Constitutional Offices Commission will sit tomorrow to determine Dr. Coughlan's fate.
