The Sugar Cane Growers Council Chief Executive Officer Surendra Sharma has tendered in his resignation effective from 9th March.

Sharma said he feels sorry for the farmers who are the only ones that do not have guaranteed pay packets and have to face problems that hits this industry, be it natural disaster, decrease in sugar prices, new levies or increasing costs.

He adds the farmers and the industry need someone who can turn things around.

Sharma added that the real issues faced by the farmers and the industry are not seriously considered.

Sharma was appointed as Chief Executive Officer on 23rd October last year.
