CCF appeals to interim administration to lift PER
CCF Chief Executive, Reverand Akuila Yabaki said the first lifting of the regulation in May was a significant move, in allowing the process towards democratic elections, to take place.
Yabaki adds that the reinstatement of the regulation yesterday has set the country back.
Fiji Human Rights Commissioner and Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Co-ordinator, Shameema Ali said there really is no need for the regulation to be reinstated and adds that whatever statement that Ousted Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase has made is according to his freedom of speech.
These comments come after it was confirmed by Commodore Bainimarama yesterday, that the Public Emergency Regulations have been reinstated in light of the recent comments in the media by Qarase and SDL National Director, Peceli Kinivuwai.
Qarase and Kinivuwai have both refused to comment on the matter.
