The Citizens Constitutional Forum hopes that the soldiers who gave $140,000 to the Prime Minister's National Disaster, Relief and Rehabilitation Fund were not forced to give up a day's pay for the people affected by the recent flood.
CCF Executive Director, Reverand Akuila Yabaki said CCF commends the good cause by the soldiers but hopes that there was no pressure from senior military officials for the soldiers to give up a day's pay.
Reverand Yabaki said CCF is also concerned that some people may not want to receive donations from soldiers because of the irreparable damage that soldiers have caused to Fiji's economy through four coups over the past 20 years.
Meanwhile, military spokesman Major Neumi Leweni said Reverand Yabaki should stop criticizing and get a life.
While accepting the 140 thousand dollar cheque earlier today, Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama thanked the soldiers for their spirit of giving up a day's pay and donating freely to the families who suffered from the floods.
Bainimarama said he would like to thank each and everyone for their contribution to a worthwhile cause towards the Prime Minister's relief fund and he believes that this is one of largest amounts given.
