A Suva businessman charged with driving under the influence of alcohol appeared in the Suva Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon.

Himmat Lodhia appeared in the Suva Magistrate’s Court this afternoon and denied the allegation.

The matter has been adjourned to 21st January.

Lodhia has been released on bail and has been ordered to surrender his travel documents.

Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra reiterates that those who are caught driving under the influence of alcohol or who fail a breathalyzer test will be kept in custody, without bail, until the next available court sitting.

He added that those people who will be found drinking and driving this Friday will spend Christmas and Boxing Day in a cell.

Also, Ranjan Narayan of Waila, Nausori, and Vikash Narayan of Vishnu Deo Road, Nakasi, were both charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and were kept in custody since Saturday.

They appeared in court yesterday and were ordered to pay $250 fine and were disqualified from driving for three months.
