Businesses owners keep fingers crossed
Village News today spoke to a number of business owners in Suva, Nadi, Lautoka and Labasa who all say that it has been one of the toughest years for the sector since the events of December 5th last year.
Speaking to Village news, two Restaurant Owners, a Jeweler, and a clothing shop owner said that it has been hard but they are hoping for the best.
Owner of Boomerang Jewelers Jyanti Lal who has had to close one of his outlets since December last year believes that people continue to buy luxury items out of necessity.
Hansraj Parmar, the owner of Meeno's Store in Lautoka and Labasa is confident that the Christmas rush will not let them down.
A prominent butcher in Suva said his business has not been affected at all, while the owner of two Clothing outlets in Suva maintained that business is really bad and things do not seem to be improving.
However, Vice President of the Retailers Association and Delux Footwear owner Dharmendra Parmar said it has not been a bad year for his business and has called on retailers to remain positive.
Meanwhile, a civil servant who was out shopping today in Suva has called on people to spend wisely.
