Buses, taxis urged to improve services
Some buses and taxis running on the roads are quite old and people have been calling on authorities to take action so that their safety is not compromised.
Land Transport Authority CEO, Etuate Koroi is hopeful conditions of buses and taxis will improve, as this was one of the reasons behind granting the increase.
However, Fiji Taxi Union, acting General Secretary Shammi Kapoor said government gave them duty concessions on LPG vehicles, and the fare increase does not cover the improvements to their fleet.
Fiji Bus Operators Association, President Zain Dean has refused to comment on the issue.
On reports of overcharging by some bus companies, Dean said the new fare list is in all buses, and drivers should issue tickets to passengers to avoid confusion. Spokesperson for Transport Ministry, Sainiana Waqainabete said people can call 132 777 to lodge their complaints on overcharging of fares.
