A 72 year old man old man of Vunivau Labasa died in a horrific road accident yesterday afternoon after the bus he was travelling in went off a bridge in Lekutu, Bua.

Assistant Police Spokesperson Sergeant Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed the bus went off the Naselesele Bridge at 2.30 yesterday afternoon and eye witnesses told Police that a punctured tyre caused the accident.

Sokomuri said nine other passengers also sustained injuries in the accident.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Police Force has now started clamping down on those drivers who break road rules late in the night and in the early hours of the morning.

The Highway patrolling officers are now being dispatch at late nights and early hours of the morning to use radar and arrest those who break road rules.

Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra said they have taken this step after numerous drivers were found drinking and driving and also records show that majority of the fatalities occur in the early hours of the morning.
