The Interim Government should understand that these are trying times for the public and it should be more considerate.
This is the view of the National Director of SDL, Peceli Kinivuwai who said that the move by the Bus Operators Association to remove the 50 percent concession on bus fare for the senior citizens who have ID cards from the LTA is not a good sign for the Interim Government.
According to Kinivuwai, the Interim Finance Minister's move to slash the special grant on fuel to bus operators in the 2007 and 2008 budget was an unreasonable move.
However Interim Finance Minister, Mahendra Chaudhry said the bus operators have already received a 10 percent fare increase and it is their social responsibility to provide some relief to the elderly and the sick by providing this concession.
Chaudhry also said that the concessions could even be legislated to ensure that the bus operators continue with the assistance for the elderly.
