The Transport Ministry has warned that tough action can be taken against those bus drivers and bus companies who charge over the approved bus fare.
Spokesperson, Sainiana Waqainabete's comments came after complaints were received that some bus drivers are charging 35 cents more than the approved amount and not issuing tickets.
Sainiana said there are laws in place to ensure passengers are not cheated.
She adds bus operators are given time until the first week of next month to get their ticket books ready.
The Consumer Council said consumers have not been given the proper information on stage mergers, new fare structure, no proper bus tickets and no stage marking and they continue to receive complaints regarding the new fares as consumers are still confused and they do not know where the stage starts and ends.
