Two bus accidents in 2008 grabbed the news headlines when 12 lives were lost in Malaqere, Sigatoka while the other claimed 4 tourists' lives in the Nausori Highlands in Nadi.

The Transport Ministry said reports on both the incidents are almost complete, and will be released within the next couple of days.

Spokesperson Sainiana Waqainabete said some of the issues highlighted and extensively investigated in the Malaqere Bus Fire report are the safety aspect of the bus, the exit points and the technical and physical make up of the bus which may have contributed to the devastating outcome.

Waiqainabete said in the Safari Bus Accident Report the issues highlighted was the speed at which the bus was travelling, the weather and bus conditions.

She added the main concern for the Ministry is the fact that most buses which are used for tourism purposes are not insured and have no insurance for the lives of the passengers.
