The Fiji Bus Operators Association is expected to hold an emergency meeting in Suva today.

Part of their agenda include the decision made by the interim government yesterday to provide subsidies to the Bus Operators to cushion the blow on the industry as bus fares will not increase due to increasing fuel prices.

Principal Information Officer at the Transport Ministry, Sainiana Waqainabete confirms that cabinet has approved a direct subsidy of 10 percent to the operators.

President, Pyara Singh confirms they will also discuss the suspension of bus services in some rural areas in Sigatoka and Labasa due to bad road conditions. He said the decision taken by Dominion Transport on Monday which left thousands of people stranded will also be discussed in their meeting.

The meeting is expected to start at 11am.
