Bus Had Problems-Passengers
Some of the passengers have confirmed that the Raiwaqa bus was having problems from when it loaded the passengers near Korovou Prison on Thursday evening.
A concerned passenger from Ovalau Esala Tawake said while travelling he saw that the driver was having a lot of trouble with the changing of gears and controlling the steering wheel.
The driver was also finding difficulties in driving the bus up the hill and it was really hot inside the bus.
Meanwhile another survivor of the tragic bus accident, Sakiusa Soli said when the bus, which came four hours late, left Korovou, there were six people standing because there was no space to sit.
He adds that at Lami Town, his wife said she was getting off because she was hearing weird noises from the bus engine. Soli said his wife also managed to convince her sister, son and other relatives to get off with her, 11 in total.
He said the fire started after passing Sigatoka town, behind the driver and before the first seat adding that the driver could not stop the bus no matter how hard he tried and the only thing he could do was hit a lamp post after Navuevu village, to stop it.
However the bus owners maintain there was nothing wrong with the bus.
Raiwaqa Bus Company Managing Director Ashish Kumar said just like his earlier statement, there was nothing wrong with the ill fated bus when it left the yard on Thursday afternoon and said like in his statement, the bus was in top condition.
Kumar adds right now they're just waiting for a report from the Land Transport Authority on the condition of the bus.
The Bus Company Managing Director said there is nothing else they can say or do right now but wait for investigations to be completed.
