Experienced loose forward Schalk Burger has been named as the Springboks captain.

Burger will become the 55th Springbok captain when he leads South Africa out against the All Blacks at Ellis Park in this weekend's Rugby Championship clash.

The 32‑year‑old has been named interim captain, in the absence of the injured Jean de Villiers and Victor Matfield.

He assumes the captaincy from Matfield, who was ruled out of action after suffering a hamstring strain against Australia last weekend.

The All Blacks will take on the Springboks at 3.05am Sunday while the Wallabies will take on Argentina at 10.40am.
