The Fiji Hoteliers Association and the Bureau of Statistics are now in consultations to iron out differences over the latest figures derived by the Bureau regarding the performance of the tourism industry.

Hoteliers Association President Dixon Seeto said they have been asked by the Bureau to put down their concerns in writing as they believe that more information should be added to the statistics to clearly outline where it is derived from.

Seeto said they are now working with the Bureau to ensure that accurate figures are made available for all stakeholders and the true picture of how the industry is performing is highlighted.

Chief Executive of the Bureau of Statistics Timoci Bainimarama when approached today on the matter said they are now looking into the Hoteliers concerns but maintains that they know what they are doing.

Stakeholders in the tourism industry earlier disputed the figures released by the Bureau which highlighted that the industry was not performing as badly as reported by some within the industry within positive results in terms of occupancy, employment and the turnover for the first quarter of 2007.
