Interim Public Service Minister Poseci Bune is expected to meet with the officials of the Fiji Islands Council of Trade Unions this hour to try to avert the planned strike later this month.

The FICTU affiliates comprising of the Fijian Teachers Association, Public Employees Union and Viti National Union of Taukei Workers rejected the proposals presented to them by Bune yesterday.

FICTU Chairperson Taniela Tabu said their strike notice remains in force.

The Fijian Teachers Association, Public Employees Union and the Viti National Union of Taukei Workers have proposed that the 5% pay cut be fully restored by 31st August this year, the retirement age to remain at 60 years and not 55 which is being implemented and the suspension of the partnership agreement be lifted immediately for all payments of COLA under the agreement be made by December 2008.
