Interim Public Service Minister Poseci Bune has indicated that the interim government is willing to fight it out with the public sector unions through the courts regarding the decision to reduce the retirement age.
As both parties now await High court Judge Justice Filimoni Jitoko to deliver a ruling on the issue whether the retirement age should be at 55 or 60, Bune said they will appeal any decision made against them.
Bune also stressed that the implementation of the reduction of the retirement age does not come into effect until January 2008 and they will not take any steps until the ruling by the High Court.
Justice Jitoko has put a stay on the implementation of the reduced retirement age in the civil service and will deliver his ruling on the matter on October 3rd.
