2003 SPG Sprint Queen Makelesi Bulikiobo is the first athlete from Fiji to qualify for the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

Bulikiobo recorded a qualifying time at the World Athletics Championship in Osaka.

She competed in the women's 400 metres event and was placed 8th in her heat with a time of 52.23 seconds, which is also her personal best time.

Bulikiobo missed out on a semifinal spot by 2 places, but still qualified for next year's Olympics. She will now travel from Osaka to Brisbane and spend 3 days under the watchful eyes of her coach Lyoyd Way, before she makes her way to Apia for the Pacific Games athletics competition which starts next week.
