Fiji's sprint queen Makelesi Bulikiobo lowered her Fiji national record by two seconds in the 800 metres in the Maunsell Distance Classic, held at the University of Queensland Athletics Centre last weekend.

Bulikiobo recorded a time of 2:08.81 ahead of Salome Dell of Papua New Guinea, the current Pacific Games champion.

Bulikiobo's previous record was 2:10.32, which she clocked on 15 December 2007, as part of her first phase of Beijing preparation.

Makelesi and training partner Isireli Naikelekelevesi are currently back in the country for two weeks before they travel to Europe where they will be competing in buildup events prior to Beijing.
