Budget Announcement On Nov 28th
Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office Parmesh Chand confirmed that the date had been set for the interim Prime Minister and Finance Minister Commodore Bainimarama to make the budget address and the logistics are now being worked out.
The National Budget revealed the government revenue and expenditure plans for the coming year and it impacts everyone in the country due to an increase or decrease in taxes and changes in the prices of goods and services due to changes in duty rates.
The budget address also revealed the government's plans on investments, boosting the economy, cutting expenditure, developing infrastructure and allocating funds to key ministries.
All of this requires millions of dollars in funds and the Finance Ministry will also reveal where the government is aiming to generate revenue to finance its 2009 plan and how much money it would have to borrow.
The venue for the 2009 Budget Address is yet to be confirmed.
