In 3 to 4 week’s time, residents in Yaqaga in Bua will know whether or not they will be able to set up pearl farms in their area.

According to the Fisheries Department, Bua is seen as a source of seed pearls and shells, and the Department is currently carrying out a feasibility test in the locality.

The Department also adds a team of four technicians are at the site carrying out tests on the salt content in the seawater and to see whether biologically, pearls will be able to grow properly.

This is after a Chinese Company which is into logging in the North, expressed interest in farming pearls in that area.
