The Brumbies secured their place in the 2014 Super Rugby Semi‑finals when they ended the Chiefs reign 32-30 in Canberra last night.
The Chiefs were thoroughly outplayed for the bulk of the opening half but displayed the resilience associated with their reign by almost forcing the contest into extra time.
The Chiefs missed 28 tackles in the first half but the second half was an entirely different performance as by full time they had only missed another three tackles.
Brumbies winger Henry Speight was in devastating form last night.
In the other play off the Sharks clung on for a 31‑27 win over the Highlanders this morning.
The Sharks had to chase the game for much of the match as the Highlanders led 13-17 at half time.
Both teams scored three tries each and the difference came down to kicks with Frans Steyn kicking four penalties and two conversions while Lima Sopoaga kicked two penalties and three conversions.
The Sharks will now face the Crusaders in the first semifinal at 7.35pm this Saturday while the Waratahs take on the Brumbies in the other semifinal at 9.30pm.
The Super Rugby final is on the 2nd of next month.
