The Blues have missed a chance to retake second place in the New Zealand Super Rugby conference in a 20-13 loss to the Brumbies at Eden Park last night.

On a wet and windy night, the hosts lamented a poor first half, where the Brumbies dominated possession for a 14-0 half time lead.

A Rene Ranger try after the break helped the Blues get within four points, but the two sides traded penalties in the final quarter to see the Brumbies extend their lead in the Australian conference.

The second home loss of the season comes at an inopportune time for the Blues, who could have overtaken the Crusaders on the ladder with a win.

In other Super Rugby matches played last the Force beat the Highlanders 19-18, the Cheetahs beat the Southern Kings 34-22, Stormers defeat Reds 20-15, while the Bulls beat Sharks 18-16.
