ACT Brumbies chief executive Michael Jones has been stood down by the club's board following a turbulent two weeks that have seen rumours develop into his departure.
Jones has the right to challenge the decision but it is yet to be determined whether he will fight for his job or leave the club.
ARU boss Bill Pulver was in Canberra yesterday to meet with Brumbies chairman Robert Kennedy at Kennedy's request as the ACT club tried to work through its issues and in the wake of a wide‑ranging interview on the weekend that saw Jones lash his critics.
It is believed the interview contributed to an accelerated move by a disgruntled board, which has grown increasingly frustrated with Jones in recent months.
It leaves the parties at a stalemate, with Jones of the belief he has done nothing wrong and is being targeted because of his decision to hand transactions from the sale of the club's Griffith headquarters to the Australian Federal Police.
The Brumbies play the Cheetahs at 1am Sunday.
