While Brucellosis can be contracted by coming into contact with any organs of an infected cow that has the disease, it however cannot be passed on from one human to another.
Principal Vet Dr Robin Achari said they have stepped up their awareness on the issue as the handling of dairy and meat products is not confined only to those that work in the industry.
Meanwhile dairy farmers along the Wainivesi and Waimaro areas are expected to liase with commercial banks regarding their loan as these farmers are not permitted to sell raw milk to Rewa Dairy.
Majority of dairy farmers told Fijivillage News that they are hoping that commercial banks will understand the situation they are currently facing.
Dairy farmer Ram Chand said this will be a huge help to the farmers since most of them have loans to pay.
Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary for Agriculture Dr Richard Beyer said the government is looking for some form of assistance.
