British Army Personnel honoured
This is the message from her Majesty Queen Elizabeth during a private ceremony that was held earlier this week to honour and present the Elizabeth Cross and memorial scrolls to the next of kin of Fijian British Army personnel who have been killed on military operation.
The Elizabeth Cross and Scroll were presented to the next of kin of Staff Sergeant T.Labalaba, Private P. Tukutukuwaqa, Private J Lewaicei, Private A. Draiva, General S. Vanua, Private E. Vakabua, Trooper S. Babakobau, Fusilier P. Suesue and Rifleman A. Toge.
The Elizabeth Cross is presented to the immediate next of kin of those who have died on medal earning operations or as a result of terrorism since 1948, including the Korean War, the Falklands conflict and operations in Northern Ireland.
Queen Elizabeth in her message said the solemn dignity which we attach the names of those who have fallen is deeply engrained in our national character.
As a people we accord this ultimate sacrifice the highest honour and respect.
The ceremony was held at the residence of the British High Commissioner Mac Maclachlan.
