The Fiji Airways Drua lost 45-36 to Brisbane City in their opening match of the National Rugby Championship.
Brisbane City scored seven tries in the match compared to the Drua’s six tries.
The Drua were behind by 21 points at half time as Brisbane City led 33-12.
Fullback Peceli Nacebe contributed 12 points for the Drua after he scored a double in the first half and also slotted through a conversion.
Nacebe scored the Drua’s only tries in the first half.
Mosese Voka, Eroni Sau, Seru Cavuilati and Cyril Reece crossed over for the Drua in the second half.
The Drua received a yellow card in each half as prop Kalivati Tawake was penalised for a high tackle in the first half and Vasikali Vudu also got a yellow card after the break.
The Drua missed three of its six conversions in the match.
Samoan sevens international Ed Fidow scored a hat-trick in the match.
Wallabies centre Samu Kerevi scored a try in the second half.
Meanwhile, the Canberra Vikings kicked off its NRC season with a 48‑40 win over Queensland Country.
The Fiji Airways Drua will meet Melbourne Rising at 5pm next Friday.
