Elano will not play for Brazil in Saturday's FIFA World Cup quarterfinal match against the Netherlands because of an ankle injury.
Elano may be fit by next week but doctors have not ruled out the possibility the play maker could miss the rest of the FIFA World Cup.
Doctors say he has been undergoing intensive treatment which can take a few days, weeks or a month, there is no timetable.
Elano was progressing clinically but tests showed the player has a bruised bone, which will keep him from being able to practice with the rest of the players at least until Saturday.
Elano scored a goal in each of Brazil's first two matches but was forced to leave after apparently feeling pain in the ankle.
He was undergoing a light training session with the rest of the players but had to cut it short after consulting with team doctors.
Looking at the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup, Brazil will play Netherlands on Saturday morning at 2am and at 6.30am Uruguay will take on Ghana.
Argentina will play Germany at 2am on Sunday morning and at 6.30am Paraguay will face Spain.
