Neymar Junior scored twice as Brazil defeated Croatia 3-1 in the opening match of the FIFA World Cup.

Croatia took the early lead after an own goal from Marcello of Brazil.

Neymar equalized for the hosts in the 35th minute of the first half before he scored his second goal from a penalty shot.

Oscar scored the third goal for Brazil.

Brazil’s 1994 World Cup Soccer winning coach Alberto Parreira said Neymar may be their best hope of glory but he cannot win the title on his own.

Parreira added that Neymar has the talent and ability to outshine anyone, but his performance will depend on the other 10 players.

With 31 goals in 49 matches for Brazil, Neymar enters the World Cup as the leading national team goal scorer in the squad.

Brazil has won the World Cup five times and has been runners up twice, Italy has won the title four times, Argentina, Uruguay and Germany have won it twice while England and Spain have also lifted the FIFA World Cup Title once.

This is Brazil's first World Cup at home in 64 years and the local fans are demanding victory from the team.
