The Brazil soccer team has lodged an appeal against the suspension of Captain Thiago Silva for Wednesday’s FIFA World Cup semifinal against Germany.
Silva was shown his second yellow card for blocking the Colombian goalkeeper’s attempt to take a kick and has to miss the next match.
The five time champions are already without their star forward Neymar for the rest of the World Cup after he sustained a serious back injury against Colombia.
Brazil and Germany will face off in the first semifinal at 8am on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Argentina’s hope of winning the title for the third time suffered a major blow after mid fielder Di Maria damaged a muscle in his right thigh and is highly likely to be ruled out of the semifinals.
Argentina will play Netherlands at 8am on Thursday in the second semifinal.
