Hurricanes loose forward Brad Shields is likely to miss the opening week of Super Rugby due to a knee injury.

Shields suffered the injury in the opening stages of the 24-22 Super Rugby pre season loss to the Rebels over the weekend.

Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett said Shields will have further scans this week.

Shields will miss this week’s final pre-season match against the Crusaders and is doubtful for the Hurricanes tour of South Africa where they will play the Sharks and the Stormers.

The Hurricanes will kick off their Super Rugby campaign against the Sharks next Sunday.
