Boy Unconscious After Assault By Teenager
Police Media Liaison Officer, Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed the incident took place when both were collecting firewood.
Sokomuri said the 13-year-old boy followed him and punched him when he was collecting firewood.
The boy was taken to a nearby health center and was later brought to the CWM Hospital after his health deteriorated.
Police are expected to lay charges on the 13-year-old boy once the victim is interviewed.
Meanwhile, a team of police officers from Labasa are currently interviewing the student suspected of throwing a coconut
at a 12-year-old student last Friday, which later resulted in his death in Taveuni.
Sokomuri said he is currently being questioned again. He said the officers also questioned the teachers and other students at the school. The victim’s post mortem report revealed that the extent of injury to his head was severe and could have been caused by a coconut but an object such as a stone.
Meanwhile, the General Manager Health Services Northern, Sister Selina Waqa is meeting with the Taveuni Health officials to get to the bottom of the story after it was alleged that the student was sent home after he was taken to the hospital without proper examination.
