Prominent boxer and Fiji's middle weight champion Zulfikar Joy Ali appeared in the Nadi Magistrates court in the last hour charged with one count of allegedly cultivating marijuana.

Joy Ali appeared before Magistrate Nazeem Sahu Khan on the allegations of cultivating marijuana has been remanded in custody.

No plea was taken and the matter has been transferred to the Lautoka court.

Police earlier stated that on Tuesday night a team of officers uprooted 139 marijuana plants from beside Ali's house.

The matter will be now called on 2nd August in Lautoka High court.
