There is a possibility that fuel prices will increase again in the next few weeks based on submissions from service station operators that they are incurring huge financial losses in selling fuel to the general public.
The Fiji Service Station Retailers Association has made submissions to the Prices and Incomes Board and to Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama requesting a review of the retail fuel margins.
Association secretary John Philip stressed that the public should be aware that just because the fuel prices increase, does not mean that the service stations are also making money through the increases.
Philip added that there are several other costs in operating a service station and without an increase, more service stations will be out of business.
The PIB is expected to make submissions to the Transport and Energy Minister in the next few weeks after looking through the financial records of the service station operators, following which the matter is expected to be taken to cabinet for a final decision.
