Lal in the sixth round defeated USA opponent 12-6, 4-0 but lost the 7th round match to Spain 11-3 and 16-2.
Lal has three more games remaining and needs to win all to advance into the last eight.
Meanwhile Litia Tikoisuva suffered another loss in the womnes section, going down to USA 9-6, 9-6.
