The Constituency Boundaries Commission today denied claims that they had proposed to the National Council for Building a Better Fiji to make changes to the Electoral Act.
Chairman Suresh Chandra said they did not propose anything as they are still carrying out the work assigned to them.
When questioned by Fijivillage whether he had, at any point, made statements that the current Electoral Act is undemocratic, Chandra denied this but admitted that a personal view may have been expressed.
The National Council for Building a Better Fiji stresses that it is now actively looking at changes to the current electoral system after the Constituency Boundaries Commission and the Electoral Commission advised the council that the current electoral rules are undemocratic.
The NCBBF has decided to speed up its work to change the electoral system and a team went to visit the President, Ratu Josefa Iloilo on Tuesday evening.
