Leslie Copeland is out of contention for the London Olympics semifinals in the men's javelin after finishing 13th overall today out of 42.

Copeland needed to be in the top 12 to qualify for the semifinals.

The former Marist Brothers High School student threw a season's best of 80.19 metres just 30 centimeters short of his personal best throw.
 
Meanwhile, Usain Bolt breezed into the Olympic 200 metres semifinal to set up a much-anticipated showdown with his training partner Yohan Blake in the final.

The reigning Olympic champion won the second semi-final in 20.18 seconds, racing out of the blocks brilliantly before relaxing down the straight.

Jamaican compatriot Blake had taken the first semifinal in 20.01 seconds while Churandy Martina of the Netherlands won the third semifinal in 20.17 seconds.

The final will be held at 7:55am tomorrow. 

In the women’s 200 metres final Allyson Felix of the USA finally got her hands on a gold medal this morning with a brilliant run.

Felix who was the runner-up in Athens and Beijing to Jamaica’s Veronica Campbell-Brown defeated 100 metres champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in a time of 21.88 seconds.

Meanwhile, the women’s 4x100 metres relay heats will start tomorrow at 7:20am while the men’s heats will start at 6:45am Saturday.

The men’s volleyball semifinals have been confirmed where Brazil will meet Italy and USA will face Bulgaria.
 
In beach volleyball, Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh, the world’s most famous beach volleyball pair, beat fellow Americans April Ross and Jennifer Kessy to win their third consecutive Olympic gold medal in their final match together.

The two have been partners for 11 years, winning three consecutive world championships, and now three consecutive Olympic gold medals since beach volleyball became an Olympic sport in 1996.

In men’s Basketball, defending champions USA defeated Australia in the last quarterfinal 119- 86 and will meet Argentina in the first semifinal.

Kobe Bryant top scored for USA with 20 points.

Russia will meet Spain in the second semifinal.

Looking at the medal tally, China is still leading with 36 gold, 22 silver and 19 bronze, USA is second with 34 gold, 22 silver and 25 bronze while Great Britain is third with 22 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze.
