Usain Bolt believes a new 200m world record is a possibility as he embarks on the next leg of his race for immortality at the Rio Olympics.

The world's fastest man electrified Rio by winning a third consecutive gold in the 100m, the first leg of his bid for an amazing "triple triple".

Bolt who is desperate to better his 2009 world best of 19.19sec, says a new record could be on the cards as he gears up for the opening round of the 200m tomorrow.

Bolt's fastest time for the 200m this year is 19.89s, set in London last month.

LaShawn Merritt of the United States has the fastest 200m time this year with a best of 19.74s, set at the US Olympic trials in July.

Justin Gatlin, silver medallist in the 100m, is second fastest, clocking 19.75s last month.

The Men's 200m Heats will start at 2.50am tomorrow.

Usain Bolt will run in Heat 9 of the Men's 200 metres at 3.46am tomorrow. 

The 200 metres semifinals will be at 1pm Thursday and while the final is at 1.30pm Friday.
